Beyond the Cake

Thinking of different desserts for your wedding? It’s becoming more and more popular to venture away from your typical white cake with buttercream frosting and go for desserts that are more personal and memorable.Sure it’s still a cake, but that’s no ordinary frosting–it’s a toasted marshmallow! You’ll need a torch to make this s’mores cake, just watch your hair…and veil! These individually wrapped caramel apples would be a sweet treat at any dessert table, or a great favor for guests to take home.Add a delicious touch to a rustic wedding with these mini pies. What a great idea for a summer wedding! Create a personal ice cream parlour stocked with all your favorite toppings.

4th of July Flair

Only a few more days until the 4th of July, so it’s time to roll out the grill and light those sparklers. Here’s some fun DIY projects that will add some patriotic pizazz to your BBQ.

This darling (and seriously cheap) DIY project was made by Rebekah Gough, who cleverly used red, white, and blue paint chips to create this banner. Click here for full instructions on how to make one for yourself.

Talk about a gastronomical feat! If you’re up for the challenge, this flag cake found on Glorious Treats would impresses your guests and have their mouths watering!

Have an empty six-pack holder? Don’t throw it in the recycle bin yet. Why not try this project from Design Sponge and turn it into a festive condiment holder. Your picnic will be red, white, blue…and green!

No 4th of July party is complete without a drink to keep you cool. This watermelon cooler looks like summer in a glass! And for a non-alcoholic option, try a pineapple-berry fizz!

Cheers America!

vintage-look sign letters

I’ve seen such great use of vintage sign letters for wedding and home decor. But waiting to find just the right size and letter that you need can be a long process. These great handmade vintage looking letters from Edie’s Lab can be made to order in a variety of colors or natural wood and a few different sizes. Lots of possibilities and no searching!

This clean sans serif font stands 12 inches high and is $15 per letter.

I love the options for colors and the slightly distressed look. These block letters are 18 inches high and $35 each.

it’s all in the {natural} details

I just love all the gorgeous floral elements from this wedding. The combination of flowers with more woody pods and branches is fantastic. And the simple all white color scheme keeps it modern and rustic at the same time. A beautiful outdoor affair.

How great is the leaf table number? What a simple idea!

variations on a theme

I always love checking out the latest from Hello Naomi. Her cakes, cookies, and cupcakes are almost too cool to eat.I love this cake and coordinating cookies from a sixteenth birthday. Could be great as a groom’s cake, too.

I think she could make any movie into a fantastic party cake/cookie combo so if you are looking for someone to create your vision (and you live in Australia), check it out. If not, maybe she could inspire you to diy your own cookie favors. Check out great photos on her blog.
